This is my dining room before I decided to paint it. I got it for a steal when I moved into my house almost six years ago. Back then I was trying to decorate in a more neutral Pottery Barn fashion, but lately I have been realizing that the look just isn’t me. My previous home, an apartment, was decorated in a more shabby chic style which I loved. After listening to so many people tell me that “they did not picture my home this way” I started to question my own taste. NEVER AGAIN!!!!!!! I am going back to what I love and what makes me happy. It will be a long road, but I will get there!
Finally done!!!!!! I am so much happier and the room looks so much lighter! I think the hardest part of this redo was the fact that I had to work indoors. It seems I always pick the worst times to do things, but they do get done!!!! Now I have to start looking for some chair pads or make them myself. The problem I have had with chair pads in the past is my dogs thinking they are chew toys!!!!! Hopefully they will have outgrown this by now!!!!! I doubt it…..pillows, slippers, dog beds are all fair game for them!!!! Picasso seems to have snuck into this shot….ooops!
Last week I posted the before and after picture of the companion piece to this dresser. I painted it with chalk paint and just loved the way it came out. When moving this piece the other day, I noticed an old label stuck to the back. Although old, it was in great shape so I decided to google the information on it.
To say I was surprised is an understatement!!!! It seems that these pieces were from the Bodart Furniture Company in Grand Rapids Michigan. They manufactured many pieces during the 30’s and 40’s. I then went on Ebay and found my exact set selling for $1799.00!!!!!!!
I now say HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!! to all my friends who think that I am crazy for taking in old furniture!!!!!!!!!
One side note…..I do feel a teensy bit guilty painting these pieces now, but hey, now they are my style!!!!!
Free Chest of Drawers From Kenny! February 12, 2013
A while back my friend Kenny dropped off some furniture at my house. I already painted one piece and I am using it as a TV stand/storage unit in my living room. Well this past weekend I finally got some time during our little blizzard to paint the chest of drawers from the two piece bedroom suite that Kenny brought over.
The furniture was in beautiful shape. I, however, am not a fan of brown wood. I was told I was being crazy to paint it, but hey…..my furniture, my choice. I just painted my staircase a couple of weeks ago and had some leftover paint. I really liked the color….sort of a bluish/greyish/white. I added some unsanded white grout to the leftovers to make my homemade chalk paint.
I prepped the dresser before painting and got to work…..on painting and a bottle of wine!!!! Hey….I was snowed in!!!!!!
This is my before picture. It has good bones, but the color…….eh!
