Yesterday I went to Michael’s armed to the teeth with discounts and coupons!!!!!  I spent a little over $37 and saved just over $40!!!!!! YIPPEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!! Just LOVE a bargain!

Anyhow, I saw these little decorated hay bales for $39.99 and said to myself “hey! I can do that!”  So what you see on my porch probably cost me less than half that amount.  I also bout candles and several skeins of yarn.

P.S. …..mine came out way nicer than the one in the store!!!!!!!

With the heat here in New York, this was the fastest I have ever completed a quilt!!!!!  Simple pattern, adorable print and bordered in light blue, this quilt is perfect for my friend Dawn’s baby boy!

These peridot earrings are about the size of a quarter.  They have a very pretty pattern that accentuates the polished design against the brushed silver.

imageHere is a close up of four blocks of the quilt I am making for my coworker, Dawn.  I was struggling to pick the right fabric for a quilt for her baby boy.

I originally had picked out traditional blues, but somehow these fabrics didn’t “speak” to me.  When I saw this adorable fabric with the tools I just knew that this was a winner!

I love to pick a variety of patterns for my quilts.  Since my focus fabric was a busy pattern I chose a simple stripe in medium tones.  It is hard to see, but the white fabric has little white stars on it.  I think that these fabrics compliment each other very well.

I am using the tool print fabric for the back of the quilt and a light blue border will complete it.

I like the simple pattern to allow the fabric to make a bold statement.  Each fabric is allowed to shine, whereas a more complicated pattern would not allow your eyes to appreciate the prints I selected.

I will use a very basic quilting stitch so as not to take away from the prints on the fabric…mostly stitch in the ditch should do very nicely.

I am sooo happy I did not choose the expected “boy colors” for this quilt.  I went into the store with one idea and happily left with something unexpected!!!!

Yo-Yo Quilt June 27, 2013

imageHere is my yo-yo quilt.  I decided to go through my fabric stash to make room for new fabrics!  I will be making three quilts this summer as three of my co-workers are expecting babies.  One of them knows she is having a boy, so that will be the first quilt that I make.  Hopefully there will be one girl since I just love making girly things!

I have already chosen the pattern for the quilt I will be making first.  The difficult part for me is always choosing the fabric since there are soooooo many wonderful prints to choose from.  I always wind up buying way more than I need because I am………shhhh……a fabric junkie!!!!! By the yard or fat quarters, it really doesn’t matter.  I just love pretty fabric.

This weekend I will be going to my favorite fabric store (JoAnne’s) to purchase the fabric for the first quilt.  I always promise myself I will just be buying enough for the one project I will be working on.  Unfortunately it never works out that way!  I always buy more than I need, and then some.  I use the excuse that I will always be able to use any left over fabric for something.

This is how I used up some of my stash this time.  A very cheery and colorful yo-yo quilt is very easy and fun to make.  You don’t need quilting skills, just a lot of patience!  The best part of this quilt is that it is totally portable while you are making the yo-yos.  You just need to carry your cut out fabric circles, a needle, some thread and a small scissor.  Most of this quilt was made during my lunch hours at work.

Another great thing about this quilt is that you can always add on to it.  In fact, I am thinking of adding a border depending on the fabric I find when shopping this weekend!
