Just when I thought all I had to deal with was back issues, I was diagnosed this week with Pleurisy.  This is an infection of the lining of the lungs.  I was very lucky to have caught it before it developed into pneumonia or worse.  As fatigued as I am I managed to decorate by sideboard for Autumn….my favorite season.

I was hoping to do more but I must wait until I am feeling better.  Rest and antibiotics are what the doctor ordered.  While I find it very hard to rest most of the time this illness is leaving me very weak yet I am unable to sleep well because of the pain in my ribs.  Lucky me….now I have that pain to go along with the pain in my back!!!!  It is always something!!!!!!

Hopefully I will be feeling better soon since I have so much more I would like to do.

I Have Been MIA September 18, 2013

As I write this I realize that it has been quite a while since my last post.  Fall is almost here and I have really not posted anything at all during the summer.

In June I was diagnosed with three herniated discs and spinal stenosis.  Five years ago I had spinal fusion surgery and this diagnosis really sent me into a tail spin.  I received three spinal epidurals over the summer and am facing the probability of more surgery sooner than later.

I decided to take a break from everything and just try to totally relax over the summer vacation as I am a teacher.  I did feel much better.

I am now back to work and I am trying to relax as much as possible….not standing too much, climbing four flights of stairs at work…..i am still feeling much better than I was in June.

During the summer I worked on making many pieces of silver jewelry.  I found it very relaxing and am going to open an Etsy shop very soon.  I will be posting pictures of my new pieces this weekend when I have more time.

I really missed posting on my blog and look forward to getting back to posting on a regular basis.  I hope that everyone had a wonderful summer!

I have been very busy lately with a new hobby which I hope to turn into a business.  I have been intrigued for many years by the making of silver jewelry.  Well, I finally decided to take the leap.

I have been working on several pieces the past couple of weeks.  All are original designs and incorporate semi precious gemstones.  I would say my style is a bit bohemian/ eclectic.  It may not appeal to everyone, but many who saw me wearing my designs gave very positive reviews.

Each is one of a kind.  I make some sketches and may follow these or go off in another design direction.  I am LOVING this new passion of mine.  I have been having a lot of trouble with my back recently so I cannot do much heavy work.  This allows me to sit and stop when I need to.

I will be posting some pictures this weekend, as soon as I figure out how to take the best pictures without glare on the piece from reflecting light.  I do want my pieces to appear as beautiful in pictures as they are in person!

I am going for an MRI this evening.  Hopefully I won’t get any bad news!

imageI just started learning how to make sterling silver jewelry.  This is my first attempt at initial charms. The initials are mine and my children’s.  I am very happy with this and am quite hopeful to continue to improve!

This will be a great hobby to take up this summer while I am on vacation from school.  Who knows….I might eventually be able to sell my pieces!!!!

New Year, New Beginnings, New Blog January 3, 2013

Hello followers!  I hope that this post finds all of you well and recovered from all the recent holiday celebrations!  I am very excited to keep blogging in this new year, bringing you recipes, photos, DIY projects and crafts.  I have also decided to create another blog dedicated to children’s art projects.

After much begging, pleading, cajoling and threatening by friends and family,  I have finally decided to start  this new project.  OK, so it is basically to get them all off my back, but I think it is a great idea!  This blog will focus on art projects that are being created by the elementary school children that I teach everyday.

At a time when the arts are being cut from many school curriculums,  I consider myself blessed to be teaching what I love to 500 students per week in an elementary school located in one of the boroughs of New York.

This blog will allow me to share with you the amazing talent that we have in our school.  It will also, hopefully, call attention to the need for the arts in our school systems nationwide.  Our school population is very ethnically and culturally diverse yet art is a universal language that we all can “speak.”  This subject allows ALL children whether they are English-speaking or English language learners to meet with success.

So, please come and visit me at It’s Elementary.  Go to raindropsonroseswhiskersonkittens.wordpress.com and see what is going on in the art world!!!!!

Just taking a moment to write this during a very busy day.  Hope all of you have a wonderful holiday.  Share this time with friends and family and celebrate all that you love!

My daughter and her boyfriend, Pete, came in from London.  They took me out to a wonderful dinner last night.  It was the first time we met and I was so happy to finally get to meet the man who has made my daughter so happy.  He is an absolutely lovely man, and very handsome, and it was such a great joy to see my daughter so happy and in love!

May this be one of many, many holidays they share together and with the family!

Yesterday, in New York, the temperatures reached the low to mid 80″s.  To celebrate and enjoy this wonderful weather, some of the teachers I work with decided to celebrate the end of the work week, and my birthday, with a happy hour.  As I work in Queens, we went to a quaint little place called Press 195.  We sat in the outdoor garden which reminded me of Montreal.  It is a garden-like setting with lovely murals.  The wait staff was very accommodating and helpful.  It felt like a June day outside the hustle and bustle of the city.We had the most delicious bloody marys and white wine sangrias accompanied with amazing appetizers.  The atmosphere was beautiful as was the company!!!!  What a wonderful way to end the work week!

I decided to share a couple of pictures with you, to share what was a beautiful escape from the city-like atmosphere we work in.
